ELEMENTS: Logic Game typed up by Underdogs for Home of the Underdogs, http://underdogs.cjb.net ** Playing Elements ** The object of ELEMENTS is to use the arrow keys to guide your Element-- that little spherical guy-- through each maze without running out of energy. Energy is displayed as an orange stripe along the bottom of the screen. Also displayed along the bottom are your score as well as the keys and the number of shards you have collected. At the beginning of the game you will have three lives (displayed on the bottom right corner). Each level consists of several mazes. Whenever you run out of energy or fall into most holes (some holes will surprise you!), you lose a life and return to the first maze in the current level. At the end of each level is a square marked X. Land on that square to earn a password that will allow you to start at the next level the next time you play. There are three main types of spaces: Flat tiles - You can move over these spaces Raised tiles - You cannot move over these blocks Arrow tiles - You can only move in the direction to which the arrow is pointing ** Special Objects and Obstacles ** Round shards - Collect shards to score points "E" battery - Restore energy 1up Sign - Earn an extra life Colored keys - Collect red and green keys... Colored locks - ... to open red and green locks... Colors doors - ... to open red and green doors Switch - Switch the direction of arrows Round button - Switch red doors to green (and vice versa) Bulkhead - This door cannot be moved or opened Square blocks - Fill up round holes Round holes - Teleport from one area to another You will need to utilize objects in a certain order to solve most of the mazes. For example, you have to get the red key before you move to the red lock in order to open the red door. In some mazes it may seem like there's no way to collect enough energy to escape. Be aware, however, that steps taken in the previous room may affect your abilities. Remember that each step you take consumes energy, and try to figure out the shortest possible path in each maze. (ELEMENTS is designed so that mistakes may affect your game beyond more than one room). Occasionally, however, you will find yourself in a situation where the maze you are currently in is unsolvable. In such cases, there's not much you can do other than resort to the "suicide key." Press S. If you have any lives left, you will be returned to the first screen of the current level. Press ESC at any time to quit the game. If you have one of the ten highest scores at the end of the game, you will be asked for your name. Type it in and press [ENTER]. We hope you have many hours of fun taking on the challenge of ELEMENTS! -- T H E E N D --
