Best is if you run this version of Quake under DOS, which
DOS I don't mind, 6.2, 6.21, 6.22, 7.0 (with Win95), ...
as long as it runs ...

After you've installed Quake 1.06, think of running
Scitech's Display Doctor (univbe.exe), to enable a VESA
2.0 driver.

Change back into the Quake directory and run it by typing
QUAKE -NOSOUND -NOCDAUDIO -NONET

There you are, the demo mode of Quake is running and
since you've been disabling the sound, it at least
doesn't annoy you with the shooting and shouting.
Press 'ESC' to get into the menu.

Choose options and in there go to the last topic, video options.

Choose 640x480 - if you can't choose
this resolution, you haven't got a VESA driver installed,
so go back and run Scitech's Display Doctor.

Press 'ESC' and back in the options menu choose go to console

Type VIEWSIZE 120 and hit 'Return'.
Type TIMEDEMO DEMO2 and hit 'Return' and the demo
starts but unfortunately the console only lifts up to the
upper half of the screen :(.

Press 'ESC' to get rid of the console and wait until the
demo finishes. After the demo finished, the console comes down again.
Now just hit the 'arrow up', hit 'Enter' and this time
the demo runs without the console.

When this run is finished the console comes down and
tells you your fps together with the no. of frames and
the time it took. - well, that's it!
