Some abilities are only available if you are above a certain security level, and the sum of your number of abilities and your laser shield level cannot exceed your security level. To see what abilities you have, simply type "stat". To get a list of abilities, costs, and minimum security levels, type "ability". To gain abilities, type "ability ". Usage of most of the abilities is straightforward: in all cases, you type the name of the ability, and usually one or more parameters. For information on the individual abilities, type "help ", i.e. "help radar". If you wish to get rid of an ability you have (in order to make room for another one, for instance) simply type "disable ". Note that the request points spent in obtaining the ability are NOT refunded. Caveat emptor. } T HELPB {INFINITY COMPLEX takes place in HELL. That should give you an idea of exactly how much you count for in the grand scheme of things. No, just kidding. INFINITY COMPLEX is drawn from such stories as Logan's Run, Brave New World, and other such depressing works. It is set in a futuristic complex which is run by a computer called MASTER CONTROL. MASTER CONTROL, as you shall see, is a little in need of some routine maintenance. All citizens of the complex have a one-way link to MASTER CONTROL; a small link is implanted in their brains to allow them to hear MC's words of wisdom. } T HELPBAS {Playing Infinity Complex, reduced to its essentials, is moving around through the Complex, using the items found therein, and interacting with other characters (who may or may not be "real people"). The point of this game is to survive and prosper, which means accumulating a lot of abilities and becoming too tough to be killed. The best way to learn more about playing Infinity Complex is to download the Player's Manual from the game's main menu. However, if you're in a big hurry... - "HELP GENERAL" will tell you how to use the game commands. - To see how well (or poorly) you're doing at the moment, type "STAT". - Information on moving around will be found by typing "HELP MOVE". - Useful tips about items will be found by typing "HELP ITEMS". - There are a variety of ways to interact with other characters... for more information, try "HELP TALK", "HELP TEAM", and "HELP COMBAT". - "HELP HINTS" has useful information that is not available elsewhere. - Exiting Infinity Complex properly is not always a simple matter of typing "X"... more details can be found by typing "HELP QUIT". } T HELPC {With the combat commands, you can either enter a player name as the target, or use the "watch" command to specify a character who will be your default target. If you have a default target, you may type the combat command without entering a name; the violence will be directed against your default target. To make someone you default target: watch To SHOOT someone with a laser weapon, use the "shoot" or "zap" commands. To KICK or PUNCH, use "kick" or "punch". To HIT WITH AN ITEM , use "bash". You may use "hit" and "attack" as well; what sort of attack takes place with be determined by what your 0th item is. Suppose you are attacking a character named "Victim". You could type either of these two sets of commands and get the same result: shoot victim watch victim kick victim shoot punch victim OR kick bash victim punch bash } T HELPG {In Infinity Complex, you control a character using simple commands, and see the "world" of the Complex through the eyes of the character; in essence, you observe the game environment and change it through your character's actions. Your character consists of a list of characteristics like "strength" and "dexterity", a set of abilities, a score that reflects your relative success in the game, and your "hit points", which describe your current state of health. The game environment consists of places ("rooms"), objects ("items"), events (like "explosions") and other people ("characters"). Many of the commands will be familiar to anyone who has played an adventure game: "look", "north", "get", "drop" etc. All these commands will be explained in this manual, along with the commands that are unique to Infinity Complex. If you make a mistake entering a command, or try to do something that is not allowed, the game will respond with an extremely helpful message like: There are problems with doing that. or What do you mean by "up yours"? } T HELPH { Loose change can often be found under seat cushions. Lasers will explode if you fire them too frequently. Jetpacks are easily damaged. Damaged jetpacks often explode. Lasers don't work welll under smoky conditions. Infinity Complex players always have one-word names. Never draw to an inside straight. If you don't have enough weaponry to kill someone, you might try luring them into a deep hole. Bad guys in Infinity Complex like accumulating large stocks of valuable items, though they guard these stocks to the best of their feeble abilities. Some characters in Infinity Complex will do the strangest things if they happen to be in a room where there are six components. } T HELPITEM {Items can either be in rooms or carried by players. To see which items are in your current room, type "ITEMS". To see which items you're carrying, type "INV" (which is short for INVentory). To see what other players are carrying, you can type "LOOK ". With each command, you will see a list of numbers and item names. To pick up an item from a room, type "GET" followed by the item's number. Not all items can be picked up this way. To drop an item you are carrying, type "DROP" followed by an item number. To rearrange the items you are carrying, you can type "READY" followed by an item number... that item will become your 0th item (and therefore useable in combat). The only ways to get an item from another player are persuasion and murder; there is no "steal" command. You may "throw" your 0th item into an adjacent room by typing "THROW" followed by a direction (one of n,s,e,w,u,d). If the target room is already full of items, something may bounce back into your hand. You may get more information on certain items. You must be carrying the item and type "STAT" followed by an item number. Some items can be "activated" by typing "ARM" followed by the item number. Once armed, some items can be deactivated by typing "DISARM" with the item's number. } T HELPM {...Whenever you see the "-" prompt, you can type "north", "south", "east", "west", "up", or "down" to move in that direction. These can be shortened to "n", "s", "e", "w", "u", and "d". Stepping into a room with no floor can usually provide a quick, if painful trip down. If you can't move upward because there's no ladder around, a jetpack can be of some use. } T HELPQ {...To exit INFINITY COMPLEX, type "x" or "exit" at the "-" prompt. However, be warned: if you're not in a designated 'Sleeping Area', your character will will remain IN THE GAME under computer control. Such characters usually wander around stupidly until killed. Sleeping areas are labelled as such in the game. You can also make a graceful exit via a Team Room or Player Room. If you find yourself in a really bad spot, and wish to end it all, just type "suicide", which does exactly what it sounds like it should. However, MASTER CONTROL hath fixed its canon against self-slaughter, and has various ways to punish such non-productive actions. } T HELPREQ {...At present, the following requests are available: HEAL -- Restore 5 hit points, up to your hit point maximum. (1 rp) HITS -- Increase your hit point maximum by 1. (15 rp) STR, DEX, CON -- Increase these attributes by 1 point, to a maximum of 25. * The above requests must be made in a room with a medical console. Examples: REQ HEAL REQ HITS REQ STR REQ DEX REQ CON CLAIM -- Marks a room as being the property of your team; anyone who is not on your team that enters the room is teleported to a random location. You must be on a team to use this request. (50 rp) LOCK -- Similar to CLAIM, except that the room begins YOUR property; only you may enter it without being teleported. (50 rp) UNLOCK/UNCLAIM: Releases a room that you have locked, or that a member of your team has claimed. (10 rp) * Each player may only lock/claim 1 room at any time. A room that is to be claimed or locked must be a Boring Room. Examples: REQ LOCK REQ CLAIM REQ UNLOCK REQ UNCLAIM RECHARGE -- Adds shot(s) to your ready item, which must be a laser weapon. The command format is "recharge " For 1 shot: "recharge" For 3 shots: "recharge 3" To load your weapon to full capacity: "recharge full" or "recharge f". Cost per shot: Laser: 1, M1 Laser: 2, M2 Laser: 3 } T HELPROCK { To fire a rocket rifle (RR), simply type "rocket "; to launch a rocket to the north, you would type "rocket north" or just "rocket n". The distance from you at which the rocket will explode can be set using the "rocket range" command. The range can be anywhere from 0 to 6, or "full"; if set to full, the rocket will keep going in a straight line until it hits something solid like a wall or a closed door. If set from 0 to 6, the rocket will travel 0 - 6 rooms before exploding. Examples: "rocket range f" "rocket range 6" To reload a rocket rifle, one must possess rocket ammo, which can be swiped from the Commies if one is willing to make the effort. The capacity of the RR is 15 rounds, and each reload gives you five more shots. To reload the rifle, simply type "rocket reload". The RR can be used in either "single shot" or "burst" modes. In single shot, one rocket is released per "rocket " command. In burst mode, all remaining rockets are fired in the specified direction...a very effective way to blow the heck out of creeps who hang around the med room and snipe at the wounded... } T HELPREPO { Things to do for points: KILL SOMEONE: The reward is based on the hit points of the person you "reformat". If you are on a team, killing a member of another team is worth more; there is no bonus for killing a teamless player. A "zombie" of the non-communist variety is worth less than a "real player" would be. Any communist is good for bonus points, of course, as are players who are marked as "wanted" for either killing a member of their own team or otherwise displeasing MASTER CONTROL. COMPONENTS: MASTER CONTROL offers a 10 point bounty on all components...if you happen to have one that you don't want, simply type 'report' and MasCon will take it off your hands and reward you. WALL REPAIRS: MASTER CONTROL will reward you with one point for each wall you repair using a repair kit. To see the high scores from within the game, simply type "high". Naturally, you can also "yell". Some examples: say Hi, Sysop! whisper Hi there, Sysop! whisper to sysop Hi there! yell Hi there, Sysop! Members of a team may also communicate with the "radio" command. Anything sent this way will be heard by all team members, i.e. radio Hey. I think I just saw a communist! The "announce" ability lets you use MASTER CONTROL's public address system, which can be heard by everyone in the game. } T HELPTEAM { ...Teams in IC are groups of players working together, and accumulating a team score. You can join an existing team if the captain of that team recruits you, or you can form your own fighting force. If you are not a member of a team, the captain of any team may offer you a spot on his team. You will be notified of the offer, and it will be in force until you type "accept" or "reject". You may only have one recruitment offer at a time. If you wish to form your own team, you can enter "form ". Note that you may not form a team if you a member of another team, or if you have an outstanding recruitment offer. Once you have formed a team, you may recruit any player who is in the game by typing "recruit ". If they are not already a member of another team, and have no other offers outstanding, they may elect to join your team. If you are online when the player accepts or rejects the offer, you will be notified. To see who is on your team, type "roster". To remove a player from a team of which you are the captain, type "eject ". This will work whether or not a player is in the game. To quit a team, you may type "resign". A team of which you are captain can be removed by typing "disband". This removes all members from the team, including yourself. NOTE: This also PERMANENTLY erases the team score. Members of a team are in constant radio contact, and may communicate with the "radio" command, which sends messages to all team members in the game. } T SENSES {...as you return to your senses, you realize that you have spent the last while wandering aimlessly around the Complex and shouting silly things. } T MDES00 {%s looks much like yourself; a mindless servant of MASTER CONTROL.
