1. What's the aim of Genius ? Genius is a new three - dimensional combination game . You as player have the task to use all your intelligence to explore the structures of the cubes. Each cube has three visible coloured square sides. Now you have to explore which square side has which colour. 2. How to play Genius 2.1 Definitions First we have to define some terms, which appear in this instruction. After that we explain the game itself. Element - a single coloured square side of the cube Molecule - a cube that consists of three coloured square sides (elements) Combination - see Pic 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Pic 1 I----I I----I I I---------I I 1 = Molecule, 2 = Combination I----I 2 I----I 1 Structure of a virus - consists of several molecules (cubes), which are connected by different combinations. Pic 1 shows the simplest structure of a virus, which consists of 2 molecules, 1 combination, 6 elements (= 2 molecules). Complicated structures of a virus consist of several combinations, which partly interlock. See pic 2, 3, 4, 5. Same elements (a, b, c) Combination 1 / /-----/I / /-----/I / b / I / / e / I /-----/ ================/-----/ I I a Ic / I d If / I I / I I / -------/ -------/ || ||------- Conbination 2 || || Pic 2: Structure of a virus which consists of two /-||--/I combinations with the same elements a,b,c. /h || / I /-----/ I I g Ii / I I / -------/ |=========================| || | || || | || /-||--/I | /--||-/I / b / I | / e / I /-----/ I | /-----/ I I a Ic / | I d If / I I / | I I / -------/ | -------/ || | ||------- Direct Combination || || Pic 3: Structure of a virus which consists of a /-||--/I combinations with nine elements. /h || / I /-----/ I I g Ii / I I / -------/ |=========================| D C--------|| || i o || || r n /-||--/I /--||-/I e n / b / I / e / I c e /-----/ ================/-----/ I t c I a Ic / | I d If / t I I / | I I / i -------/ | -------/ o || | n-------|| Combination 2 || 1 || Pic 4: Structure of a virus which consists of a /-||--/I direct combination (1) and a normal /h || / I conbination (2). Don't make the mistake and think that the elements a,b,c - d,e,f - j,k,l form a direct combination, too. Pic 4 indicates the same direct combination as in pic 3. It just has an additional normal combination of the elements a,b,c - d,e,f. All complicated structures are built in the same way. 2.2 Results In order to find out the kind of elements which are presented by colours, the computer makes a result for every combination. For each combination of a structure of a virus the computer produces a result- window, which consists of as many squares as elements are featured at one combination. Pic 6 shows a result window for a normal combination, pic 7 shows a result window for a direct combination. ------------- Pic 6: Result window of a normal combination (6 elements) | | | | ------------- | | | | ------------- ------------- Pic 7: Result window of a direct combination (9 elements) | | | | ------------- | | | | ------------- | | | | ------------- The result windows are placed by the computer in a way that you can see to which combination they belong (look at pic 8,9 and 10). The arrows show to which specific combinations the result windows belong. /-----/I /-----/I --------- / b / I / e / I | | | /-----/ =============/-----/ I /_____ --------- I a Ic / I d If / \ | | | I I / I I / --------- -------/ -------/ | | | || --------- || || || /-||--/I /h || / I /-----/ I I g Ii / I I / -------/ Pic 8 /\ | | ------------- | | | | ------------- | | | | ------------- |=====================| || || || || /-||--/I /-||--/I --------- / b|| / I / e|| / I | | | /-----/ =============/-----/ I /_____ --------- I a Ic / I d If / \ | | | I I / I I / --------- -------/ -------/ | | | || --------- || || || /-||--/I /h || / I /-----/ I I g Ii / I I / -------/ Pic 9 /\ | | ------------- | | | | ------------- | | | | ------------- | | | | ------------- ------------- | | | | ------------- | | | | ------------- | | \/ /-----/I /k / I /-----/ I I j Il / I // I / -//----/ // // // // // /-----/I /-----/I / b / I / e / I /-----/ ================/-----/ ================| I a Ic / I d If / || I I / I I / || -------/ -------/ || || || || || || /-||--/I /h || / I /-----/ I Pic 10 I g Ii / I I / -------/ /\ | | ------------- | | | | ------------- | | | | ------------- | | | | ------------- The computer that knows the real chemical (colored) mixture of the structure of the molecules of the equivalent type of the virus, compares them with the colours entered by you. For each element (colour) discovered correctly but located at the wrong position the computer puts a white spot into the result window. For each element (colour) discovered correctly and is located at the right position the computer puts a black spot into the result window. Colours which aren't discovered arn't represented at the result window. The player has to find out by logical thinking which colours are supposed to be represented at the result window: examples for a few results: /-----/I /-----/I ----- / / I / / I | X | = black /-----/ ================/-----/ I ----- I I / I I / | O | = white I I / I I / ----- -------/ -------/ | | = empty ----- --------- | X | X | Pic 11: The six elements are supposed to be red. --------- | | | --------- | | | --------- Example 1: At pic 11 you see two black spots at the result window, that means that 2 colours are discovered directly and are located at the correct pos.. As all elements have the same colour in that case it is known that two of the six elements have this colour and are located correctly. The other four elements are still unknown. In order to find out which two of the six elements are located correctly you have to do further tests. /-----/I /-----/I ----- / / I / / I | X | = black /-----/ ================/-----/ I ----- I I / I I / | O | = white I I / I I / ----- -------/ -------/ | | = empty ----- --------- | X | O | Pic 12: The left cube is supposed to be red. --------- The right cube is supposed to be green. | | | --------- | | | --------- Example 2: At pic 2 you see a black and a white spot at the result window. That means that one colour is discovered and located correctly (black spot). The other colour is discovered correctly but not located correctly (white). Now you have four possibilities: 1. Two red side squares are correct. One is located correctly on the left cube and the other one has to be at the right cube. 2. Two green side squares are correct. One is located correctly on the right cube and the other one has to be at the left cube. 3. One red side square is discovered and located correctly at the right cube. One green side square is discovered correctly but not located. That means that the green side square has to be at the left cube. 4. One green side square is discovered and located correctly at the right cube one red side square is discovered correctly but not located. Theat means that the red side square has to be at the right cube. You have to check out by further tests which of these possibilities is correct. 2.3 End of the game. When all elements are located and discovered correctly, the result window only consists of black spots. After that the computer announces the chemical formula of the virus. After that you can begin a new game! 3. Usage 3.1 Menu screen After entering the codes the following menu screen will appear. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ | | | | O O O O O O O O O O | | | | | | -------------------- ----------------------- ------------------- | | | | | | | | | | | Competition | | Player: | | Normal Game | | | | 1 | | 2 | | 3 | | | -------------------- ----------------------- ------------------- | | | | ----------------- ------------------ -------------- | | | | | | | | | | | End | | CUBE | | Start | | | | 4 | | 5 | | 6 | | | | | | | | | | | ----------------- ------------------ -------------- | | | | ------------ -------------- ------------- ------------ ---------- | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Note | | Delete | | Load | | Save | | List | | | | 7 | | 8 | | 9 | | 10 | | 11 | | | ------------ -------------- ------------- ------------ ---------- | | | | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- | | | | | | | B L A C K M O N K S ! Aboii you see ten color spots. You can select the colours, which are supposed to be used during the game. By clicking the colour spot with the left mousebutton the arrow vanquishes, another clicking makes him appear again. Enyway two colours have to be activated at least. 3.1.2 Options After loading the game the option "competition" is activated. When you click this icon the display changes to standard respectevely "Conversion". /icon 1 3.1.2.1 Competition You play all or nothing! 20 colour combination for each level are deposited and are waiting to be solfed by you. Somebody who explores all combinations of a virus type correctly at the fastest time has the right to call himself "GENIUS". Remember: "All or Nothing!" For desolution will not be shown after the competition". 3.1.2.2 Standard Do you want to have a new challenge each time ? Each game has different colour combinations. You will read chapter 3.1.4 "versions" which dificulties are waiting for you at the option "standard". 3.1.2.3 Conversion Do you have strong nervs? Are you totally concentrated?? If not, skip this paragraph and don't mass with "conversion". If so - try it - there will be vicious suprise. We don't wont to tell more about it this time. Anyway, just play conversion when you play Genius before. But think of this: for each sturcture exists one solution never surender. 3.1.3 Name of the Player Next to the option icon is the icon for the name of the player. After loading the name ALMISOFT will be printed at this icon. By clicking with the left mousebutton the player can enter his name. 3.1.4 Versions The following versions (icon 3) can be selected with the mousebutton, if you have choosen standard or conversion. 3.1.4.1 Normal game You have time and want to play a little game? Here you have unlimited time! This version is especially for rookies. 3.1.4.2 Maximal tries Are you optimistic or do you have guts? Now you have to solve a structure with a given amount of tries. When you choose this version a new line at the buttom of the screen will appear. You can select a maximum of 29 tries. 3.1.4.3 Time to think Do you want to have stress?? You can have it ! For each try you have an amount of time you have choosen yourself. 3.1.4.4 Maximum time Do you want to have a time limit?? Within the length of the game chossen by yourself you have to explore a complete structure. To set the time click "Min" or "SEC" and change with "+" or "-". 3.1.5 End 3.1.6 Levels The icon in the middle of pic 13 (CUBE) shows the structure of the virus you have to play. By clicking you can change the structures. Notice that you can choose different structures per option. 3.1.7 Start 3.1.8 Note Do you have a printer ? If so you can print a note. ende 3.1.9 Delete/Load/Save 3.1.10 List The highscorelist appears. 4. the game screen The game screen consists of 20 squares in 5 colums and 4 rows. The first structure will appear at the left top. You have to fill it with colour. Behind the last showed pic a colour palette appears with the curent colours and icons including the letters E, S, R, A, >. The elements of the first structure have the first colour. This colour would be white, if you had played with all ten colours. By clicking with the right mouse button you can select one colour. The mouse pointer now has the chosen colour and with it you can fill as many elements as you want. You do this by clicking on the element with the left mouse button. By clicking '>' with the left mouse button the computer makes the results and puts the spots at the result window. At the same time a new picture appears which you can enter the colours of the next try in. Put the colours in regard of the previous results to solve all elements of the structure quickly. The icon R converts the current structure to the previous structure. Icon A changes all elements of the structure to the colour of the last chosen colour, which also is displayed by the mouse pointer. Icon E means Exit Game. If you exit, the soloution appears at a new window (except the competition mode). When you close this window, a comment window will appear. By clicking the comment window you see the menu screen again. Icon S just means save game. This instruction was translated and simplified by Andy of Black Monks.
